On the afternoon of April 24, Democratic Party candidate for Hwaseong Special Mayor Jeong Myeong-geun opened his campaign office. The event drew roughly 900 attendees, including party members, civic leaders and local supporters, and Jeong vowed to run a campaign aimed at victory.

The ceremony was attended by Democratic Party Supreme Council members Moon Jeong-bok (Siheung Gap) and Kang Deuk-gu (Anyang Manan); Gyeonggi provincial party chair Kim Seung-won (Suwon Gap); National Assembly members Kim Young-jin (Suwon Byeong), Kwon Chil-seung (Hwaseong Byeong), Song Ok-ju (Hwaseong Gap) and Yeom Tae-young (Suwon Mu); Venerable Seonghyo, head monk of Yongjusa; former lawmaker Yoo Yong-geun; former Osan Mayor Kwak Sang-wook; as well as current and prospective city and provincial councilors.

At the event, Rep. Kwon Chil-seung and Rep. Song Ok-ju helped Jeong and his wife, Lee Sun-hee, put on campaign jackets and urged the couple to campaign vigorously. Jeong then presented vitamins to volunteers as a token of appreciation and asked for their continued support throughout the campaign.

In his address, Jeong said, "My administration will change citizens’ lives, not wield power. I will demonstrate results, not stage performances." He acknowledged persistent challenges—transportation, education and regional disparities—and pledged to confront them by listening humbly to residents and acting with decisive execution.

He added that this election is not merely a choice but a pivotal crossroads for Hwaseong’s future. "I, Jeong Myeong-geun, will work with citizens to build a Hwaseong Special City where everyone wants to live, where it’s easy to raise children, and where jobs and opportunities abound—making Hwaseong the nation’s leading city," he said.

Kwon Chil-seung, who serves as standing co-chair of the joint campaign committee, praised Jeong’s record over the past four years leading Hwaseong, calling it proof of his capabilities. "Please give him your wholehearted support to advance Hwaseong even further," Kwon urged.

Co-chair Rep. Song Ok-ju asked Jeong to take responsibility for Hwaseong’s development over the next five and ten years. "Let Lee Jae-myung lead the country, and let Jeong Myeong-geun lead Hwaseong," she said.

Supreme Council member Kang Deuk-gu described Jeong as a prepared public servant with imagination and sound judgment. "He doesn’t shy away from hard work and gets things done. He is the person Hwaseong needs now and the best candidate to implement President Lee Jae-myung’s governing philosophy here," Kang said.

Moon Jeong-bok, who called herself Hwaseong’s "second daughter," noted that Jeong won his primary with an overwhelming majority and expressed confidence that he will continue to drive progress in their hometown.

Provincial party chair Kim Seung-won said he hopes the momentum behind Jeong’s victory will spread widely. Rep. Kim Young-jin added that Jeong is the right person to sustain Hwaseong’s strong growth.

Earlier in the day, former city council chair Kim Kyung-hee and former senior presidential aide Jin Seok-beom declared a "one team" pledge and visited the morning campaign office to present Jeong with their prepared policy booklets. Jeong committed to faithfully implementing those proposals in the spirit of unity.

Jeong also announced plans to solicit citizen policy proposals to ensure residents’ ideas are reflected in city governance.
