[Herald Economy=Reporter Kim Byung-jin] Kim Jae-won and Lee Cheol-woo (listed alphabetically), locked in a tight contest for the People Power Party’s nomination for governor of North Gyeongsang Province, have launched a final all-out push as the party prepares to name its candidate.

Lee, who is seeking a third term as governor, concentrated his efforts on expanding support on the 12th, the opening day of primary voting.

He visited the birthplace of former President Park Chung-hee in Gumi, paid his respects and met with residents as part of a last-minute, on-the-ground outreach.

Lee unveiled a series of policy pledges, including the "Gyeongbuk Grand Transformation 10+1 Project," tailored proposals for each of the province’s 22 cities and counties, and a welfare safety-net plan called the "10,000 KRW Hope: Gyeongbuk First-Step Pension" (7.50 USD).

Kim has been focusing on areas he classifies as strongholds or closely contested districts, pressing to broaden his support there.

On the same day, Kim visited Pohang — the province’s most populous city and the one with the largest party membership — and neighboring Gyeongju to appeal for votes.

In Pohang, former Mayor Park Seung-ho, City Council Chair Kim Il-man, and Jang Kyung-sik, a former provincial assembly chair from Yeongdeok, joined Kim’s campaign.

Kim plans to campaign in northern cities such as Andong and Yeongju on the 13th for his final push.

Meanwhile, the People Power Party will conduct voting and opinion polling on the 12th and 13th. The results will weigh party-member elector votes and general public polling equally (50/50), and the party will announce its final candidate on the 14th.
