Daegu Concert House is accepting applications for the DCH Ensemble Academy, a training program for young musicians in the Daegu region. Applications are open through Friday, May 22.
The academy grew out of an international exchange program held last November in partnership with Belgium’s Soroda Foundation. World-class string players led intensive instruction and a joint concert for 13 local young musicians, and several participants subsequently received additional training in Belgium. The strong showing from members of the Solasian Youth Orchestra also underscored the program’s potential for broader collaboration.
For 2026, organizers have refined the program’s structure. They moved the schedule to July to align with the summer break, consolidated all activities at Daegu Concert House to improve accessibility, and strengthened the faculty with leading domestic professors and performers.
This year’s academy focuses on woodwinds. The faculty includes flutist Ye-rin Lee (professor, Korea National University of Arts); oboist Han I-je (permanent associate principal, Deutsche Oper Berlin); bassoonist Yoo Seong-kwon (principal, Berlin Radio Symphony Orchestra); clarinetist Cho Seong-ho (professor, Kangwon National University); and hornist Kim Hong-bak (professor, Seoul National University).
Participants will receive intensive training—ensemble classes and individual lessons—July 1–6. On July 7 they will join the faculty for a final concert, DCH Ensemble Stage, to showcase their progress. All sessions will take place at Daegu Concert House.
Applicants must be between 20 and 35 years old (born 1991–2006) and meet at least one of the following criteria: live or work in Daegu; be a graduate of a Daegu-area music college; or have participated in a Daegu Concert House curated performance or education program.
The academy is seeking flutists, oboists, bassoonists, clarinetists and horn players. Applicants must submit an application form and an audition video of a free-choice piece. Applications are accepted by email from April 28 through 6 p.m. on May 22. Final selections, made via remote audition, will be posted on the Daegu Concert House website on June 2.
Selected participants will receive full tuition support, a certificate of completion and the opportunity to perform on the DCH Ensemble Stage. Outstanding performers may be invited to future Daegu Concert House curated concerts and offered opportunities to pursue careers abroad.
