The Public — Reporter Oh Hong-ji: The Goe-san Cultural Center, led by director Kim Chun-soo, said on April 23 that it held a founding ceremony for the Natural Resonance Goe-san Orchestra on April 22 in the center’s third-floor main hall.

Some 100 people attended the event hosted by the cultural center, including County Chief Song In-heon, Director Kim Chun-soo and orchestra members, to celebrate the group’s launch.

The program included a progress report, welcome remarks and congratulatory speeches, followed by a celebratory string-quartet performance by the lead instructors.

The Goe-san Cultural Center recruited members for the orchestra as part of the “Culture in Every Corner 2026” initiative.

The Goe-san Orchestra comprises 57 local residents who play strings, woodwinds and brass instruments, under the direction of conductor Lee Won-hee and seven professional instructors.

The ensemble began formal instrument and group rehearsals in April and plans to present its progress at a showcase concert in December.

Members range in age from their 20s to their 70s, and officials expect the orchestra to offer unifying music that resonates across generations.

Director Kim Chun-soo said, “The Goe-san Orchestra is a program that brings residents of Goe-san—a region facing population decline and limited cultural resources—together through classical music. I hope newcomers and longtime residents, and people from the young to the elderly, will connect and find common ground through music.”

County Chief Song In-heon congratulated the Natural Resonance Orchestra on its energetic first steps, saying he hopes the group’s joint rehearsals will boost Goe-san’s cultural pride and help strengthen community ties.
