[SPOTV News — Reporter Kim Won-gyeom] K-pop group Pau will release the new single "WHY" to kick off a self-directed experimental music project titled The Demo Tape.

Pau will release "WHY," the opening track of The Demo Tape #1, at 6 p.m. on the 5th. The project converts members' everyday emotions and thoughts into songs, aiming both to broaden the group's creative range and to convey more candid, personal messages.

An R&B-soul number, "WHY" was written and composed by member Jeongbin. The song captures the subtle feelings that can surface in passing moments, and it honestly explores growing attraction and the confusion that comes with relationships that are hard to define — themes likely to resonate with listeners.

Jeongbin said the song was inspired by watching two people in front of a school whose interaction left him unsure whether it was a joke or something serious. He wanted to express the feeling you try to shrug off but keep thinking about, and the complicated emotions that arise when someone's actions unsettle you. He added that he feels both nervous and excited to be the first member to present an original composition in the self-made project and hopes fans will like it.

Under The Demo Tape, each member turns personal stories into songs and then shares them at listening sessions. By unpacking small but lasting emotions one track at a time, the group aims to offer comfort and a sense of connection to listeners.

After promoting "Come True" earlier this year, Pau has used this project to reinforce their image as growth-oriented all-rounders, with all members taking part in songwriting and composing. Because the group handles everything from demo work to listening sessions themselves, expectations are high for what follows "WHY."

Pau plans to present The Demo Tape as a gift to fans and will continue with member-focused activities and a planned comeback in the second half of the year, pursuing a wide range of projects.
