Meet Kyungmin Park: The Rising Conductor Making Waves with the Netherlands Philharmonic Orchestra

[TV Daily reporter Kim Ji-ha] Jecheon-born conductor Park Kyung-min will begin serving as associate conductor of the Netherlands Philharmonic Orchestra in the 2025–26 season.

Park earned both his bachelor’s and master’s degrees in orchestral conducting from the Hanns Eisler School of Music in Berlin. While there, he studied with Alexander Vitlin of the Berlin State Opera, laying a firm musical foundation.

He drew international attention after placing in several prestigious conducting competitions, including the 58th Besançon International Conducting Competition and contests honoring Ionel Perlea, Artur Nikisch and Antal Doráti. He has further honed his craft through masterclasses with conductors such as Alan Gilbert, Cristian Măcelaru, Markus Stenz, Sir Donald Runnicles and Christian Ehwald.

Park has worked as assistant conductor to noted maestros including Christoph Eschenbach, and has conducted a broad range of European ensembles, among them the Netherlands Philharmonic, Konzerthausorchester Berlin, Orchestre Dijon, Orchestre Victor Hugo, the Romanian Chamber Orchestra and the Karlsruhe Symphony.

Active on the opera stage, he led the world premiere of Sina Fani Sani’s DiFaced at Deutsche Oper Berlin and has earned praise for nuanced interpretations of works such as Udo Zimmermann’s Weiße Rose, György Ligeti’s Aventures and Bizet’s Carmen.
