The Sokcho branch of the Chuncheon District Court will hold a warrant-review hearing at around 2 p.m. on allegations that he violated the country’s narcotics laws. Authorities say he is accused of possessing and inhaling marijuana.
Police say they obtained an arrest warrant, tracked him for roughly two months and arrested Kim at about 8:30 p.m. on the 8th at a location in Sokcho, Gangwon Province. During questioning, he reportedly admitted to the allegations. He was previously detained in early 2010 on suspicion of smoking marijuana. The court is expected to rule on his detention later that afternoon.
Kim debuted as Sinawe’s fifth lead vocalist in 1996 and remained with the band through 1999. He went on to perform with Nabi Effect, Raysios and Art of Parties, and pursued solo work. He rejoined Sinawe in 2015 and appeared at the band’s full reunion comeback concert that July.
He has been a regular on music shows such as KBS’s Immortal Songs and MBC’s King of Mask Singer, and released the solo single "Nugu" in 2018.
