The Daedeok Cultural Center will present a two-night \"Lecture Concert\" series with maestros on Saturday the 16th and Sunday the 17th at Changgong Hall in the Daegu Music Creation Center.

The series seeks to deepen appreciation for the fine arts through commentary by the region’s leading conductors. Conductor Kim Hyun-ho of the Yeongnam Gugak Orchestra and Conductor Baek Jin-hyun of the Daegu Metropolitan Symphony Orchestra will each lead a program.

On the first night, the 16th, Kim Hyun-ho takes the stage at 5:30 p.m. to showcase the many facets of gugak (Korean traditional music). The program ranges across traditional forms, including the string ensemble piece Cheonnyeon Manse, the pansori Heungboga, court dance, Sinsa Cheolga, Gyeonggi folk songs and samdo samulnori. Fourteen guest performers will join him for ensemble works, pansori, folk singing, gayageum byeongchang, Korean dance and samulnori. Kim—who served as principal of the Gyeongsangbuk-do Provincial Gugak Orchestra and now conducts the Gimcheon City Gugak Orchestra while also acting as artistic director of the Gyeongju City Silla Gochidae—will provide commentary to highlight gugak’s appeal.

Then, at 3 p.m. on the 17th, Baek Jin-hyun will lead a classical program accompanied by a brass quintet. His repertoire spans traditional classical pieces as well as opera, jazz, tango, film scores and pop, offering a broad view of classical music’s reach. Baek, who has served as chief conductor of the Gyeongsangbuk-do Provincial Symphony and the Changwon City Symphony and has led the Daegu Symphony since 2023, will set down his baton for this performance and meet the audience as a commentator.
