Min Kyung-ho Wins Grand Prize; 24 Honored
“I’m grateful to connect with the world through music. I hope to become a performer who moves people and brings them hope.” The remark came from Min Kyung-ho, a winds and percussion player who won the grand prize—the Minister of Culture, Sports and Tourism Award—at the 4th Heart-Heart Music Competition.
The Heart-Heart Foundation, led by chairman Oh Ji-chul, held the competition’s final and awards ceremony at the foundation’s recital hall in Songpa District, Seoul, on the 15th. After the final, 24 performers received awards across gold, silver and bronze categories. The foundation distributed a total prize pool of 30,000,000 KRW (approximately $22,500) and will offer winners opportunities to perform in future foundation-sponsored concerts. Applicants to HeartHeart Art & Culture Co. will also receive hiring preference.
The Heart-Heart Music Competition is South Korea’s first music contest for performers with developmental disabilities. It provides an opportunity for these musicians to showcase their talents and pursue professional careers. This year, 130 performers from across the country competed in spirited contests across four categories: piano, strings, winds and percussion, and voice.
