SeomAir debuts first new aircraft on the Gimpo–Sacheon routeProvided by SeomAirProvided by SeomAir

Regional air-mobility (RAM) carrier SeomAir said March 10 that it has received an Air Operator Certificate (AOC) to conduct air-transport operations.

South Korea's Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport completed safety oversight checks and formally confirmed the airline met all requirements to begin flying, SeomAir said.

SeomAir will launch scheduled commercial service on the Gimpo∼Sacheon route beginning March 30.

The carrier plans four daily round trips on the route. Tickets go on sale on SeomAir's official website starting this afternoon.

Prior to that, SeomAir will operate non-scheduled Gimpo∼Sacheon flights starting March 12, running six days a week with two round trips per day.

SeomAir intends to expand its network from Gimpo∼Sacheon to include Gimpo∼Ulsan, Sacheon/Ulsan∼Jeju and Gimpo∼Tsushima (Japan).

The airline also plans to phase in service to island airports such as Ulleungdo, Heuksando and Baengnyeongdo.

SeomAir CEO Choi Yong-deok said, "Since we founded SeomAir in 2022, our team spent the past four years preparing for operations by asking, 'Are we qualified to fly?' rather than, 'When will we be able to fly?'"

He added, "With the AOC in hand, SeomAir officially launches as a regional air-mobility carrier connecting islands and the mainland — schools to hospitals, workplaces to homes. We will operate short, low-demand routes that full-service and low-cost carriers have avoided for profitability reasons, help close gaps in aviation infrastructure and become a regional airline embraced by local communities."
