Seom Air has cleared the final regulatory hurdle for commercial service by receiving its Air Operator Certificate (AOC).

The airline said the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport completed verification of Seom Air’s safety management system on March 10 and issued the AOC under the Aviation Safety Act.

With the AOC, Seom Air will begin scheduled commercial service on the Gimpo–Sacheon route on March 30. The route will operate four round trips daily, and tickets will be available on Seom Air’s official website starting the afternoon of March 10.

Beginning March 12, Seom Air will operate non-scheduled Gimpo–Sacheon flights six days a week, with two round trips per day.

After launching Gimpo–Sacheon service, the carrier plans to expand its network to include Gimpo–Ulsan, Sacheon–Jeju, Ulsan–Jeju and Gimpo–Tsushima (Daemado), followed by phased service to island airports such as Ulleungdo, Heuksando and Baengnyeongdo.

Seom Air aims to address the lack of direct links between Incheon and regional airports. The airline plans to build a trunk network connecting hub and regional airports to fill gaps in domestic air infrastructure and to lead efforts to revitalize regional airports as a front-line regional carrier.

Seom Air CEO Choi Yong-deok said, 'With the AOC, Seom Air officially launches as a regional air-mobility carrier connecting islands and the mainland — schools and hospitals, workplaces and homes. We will operate short-haul, low-demand routes that full-service and low-cost carriers have avoided for profitability reasons, close gaps in air infrastructure, and grow into a regional airline that local communities rely on and support.'
