Prepay this month's vehicle tax to save 3.76%; applications accepted through March 31
Goseong County is offering a second window for annual vehicle tax prepayment, accepting applications from March 13 through March 31 for residents who missed the January deadline.
Under the annual prepayment system, vehicle taxes normally billed in June and December can be paid in advance for a discount. Prepaying in March applies a 5% deduction to the April–December portion, which works out to roughly a 3.76% reduction on the total annual tax.
Residents can apply in person at the county finance department or at local town and township offices, by phone, or online via Witax.
Prepayments cannot be made through automatic bank transfer and must be paid directly. If payment is not received by March 31, the vehicle tax will be billed in the regular June and December cycles.
If a vehicle is sold or scrapped after a prepayment, the county will prorate and refund the tax covering the period after the transfer or disposal date. Owners can also request transfer of the prepaid tax balance when registering a change of ownership.
Go Young-hoon, the county tax official, noted that applications are also accepted in June and September but the discount period shortens later in the year. \"If you missed January, paying in March is preferable,\" he said, adding that the prepayment program both lowers tax liability and eliminates the need to make two regular payments each year.
