Automakers market accelerates industrial shift…Local firms move to strengthen response; consortium seeks to build an industry ecosystem — will it produce tangible cooperation?
Pyeongtaek City in Gyeonggi Province has launched an initiative to deepen collaboration among local automakers and parts suppliers as the industry shifts toward future vehicles. City officials say the effort is meant to address the limits of companies acting alone as the finished-vehicle market undergoes rapid structural change.
On the 2nd, Pyeongtaek hosted a Future Vehicles Corporate Council exchange event at the Kia Certified Pre-Owned Center in Pyeongtaek, where participants reviewed industry trends and policy support measures. The meeting reflected how the transition to electric vehicles is quickly reshaping not just automakers but also parts and service sectors.

Attendees focused on emerging market areas such as certified used cars and remanufacturing. Speakers highlighted business models that span the entire vehicle lifecycle and urged traditional parts makers to expand beyond production into services and recycling.
Officials also outlined concrete support measures to help small and medium-sized parts suppliers increase resilience. The plan packages practical policy tools — financing, testing and certification assistance, and prototype production support — to ease the costs and risks of industrial transition.
Pyeongtaek plans to use the Future Vehicles Corporate Council to broaden information-sharing and collaboration among firms, and to boost the competitiveness of the local auto-industry ecosystem through support programs coordinated with the Pyeongtaek Industrial Promotion Agency.
However, analysts say the council's ability to evolve into a functioning collaborative platform will be the key determinant of future outcomes. In an industry being rapidly reordered, the degree to which policy can close the gap with real-world needs will likely decide the region's automotive competitiveness.
