POSCO’s Pohang Works said on April 7, 2026, that it has opened the world’s first mass-production facility for suspension springs for electric vehicles.

Spring steel for suspension is a premium wire-rod product that absorbs road impacts and supports the vehicle’s weight; it has a direct effect on ride comfort, safety and overall vehicle performance.

Because battery packs are typically mounted beneath the vehicle floor, EVs require suspension springs that are thicker and stronger than those used on internal-combustion-engine vehicles to better protect the battery from road impacts.

To meet rising EV demand, Pohang Works said it optimized process conditions and introduced technological advances that overcome the limits of its existing equipment, securing mass-production capability for large-format springs.

POSCO plans to scale up sales this year and expand partnerships with major global spring manufacturers.

"This achievement reflects close collaboration among our operations, research, quality and marketing teams," a POSCO spokesperson said. "By advancing process technology and differentiating our products, we will strengthen our competitiveness in the high-value wire-rod market."
