Applied Intuition, a physical-AI company, announced March 30 that it has formed a strategic partnership with LG Innotek to accelerate development of safe, scalable autonomous vehicles.
Applied Intuition will optimize its autonomous-driving stack to work with LG Innotek’s production cameras, LiDAR and radar sensors, enabling advanced autonomous functions.
The partnership pairs LG Innotek’s premium sensors with Applied Intuition’s simulation-based validation and on-road testing. That combination lets automakers speed development of production-grade autonomous systems using state-of-the-art hardware.
Qasar Younis, co-founder and CEO of Applied Intuition, said, "For autonomous vehicles to scale widely, hardware and software ecosystems must evolve together. By working with LG Innotek, we will help automakers evaluate sensors and validate performance in both simulation and real-world driving, enabling a smooth transition from development to production of autonomous systems."
Under the collaboration, LG Innotek’s sensors will be installed on Applied Intuition’s global fleet of autonomous test vehicles. Data from vehicles operating in multiple regions will provide perception-system feedback and reference datasets to evaluate and improve sensor performance.
In addition to road testing, LG Innotek will integrate digital twins of its cameras, LiDAR and radar into Applied Intuition’s simulation environment. That will allow automakers to assess sensor performance in realistic virtual scenarios from the start of development, shortening iterative cycles and reducing the technical complexity of integrating diverse sensors with autonomy software.
LG Innotek said it will leverage Applied Intuition’s software platform and global testing capabilities to operate its own autonomous test vehicles in South Korea, and expects to significantly shorten the development timeline for its integrated sensing solutions.
Moon Hyuk-su, CEO of LG Innotek, said, "By partnering with Applied Intuition, which brings world-class software capabilities, we will offer differentiated solutions that set a new standard for autonomous driving to our customers. Through this partnership, LG Innotek will advance as a global leader in mobility robotics sensing and help lead the Physical AI era."
Integrating sensors and autonomous-driving software early in development should shorten design and validation timelines for automakers. The approach is also expected to expand into other industries, including robotics and drones.
