A man in his 50s who struck a 1-ton (about 2,205 lb) box truck on the Incheon Bridge, causing it to overturn and then fleeing the scene, later turned himself in to police.

According to the Incheon Police Agency on the 8th, the driver, identified as A and in his 50s, was driving a Hyundai Veracruz SUV at about 2:38 p.m. when he rear-ended a 1-ton box truck in the third lane near the Yeonsu junction (JC) heading toward Songdo on the Incheon Bridge. He was booked without being detained on suspicion of hit-and-run causing injury and related offenses under the Act on Aggravated Punishment of Specific Crimes.

The impact sent the box truck onto its side, and the truck driver, identified as B, complained of pain.

A following vehicle then struck the overturned truck, prompting police to close portions of the three-lane, one-way roadway. The collision created severe congestion for roughly 2 km (about 1.2 miles) from the scene, though traffic has since returned to normal.

Police initially searched for the vehicle that left the scene immediately after the crash, but identified the driver after A turned himself in.

A police official said, “We booked A without detaining him after he turned himself in,” and added, “We are investigating the exact circumstances of the crash.”
