(The CEN News / Reporter Ahn Chaebin) Hyundai Motor Co. temporarily suspended domestic and international sales of certain trims of the large SUV the All‑New Palisade after identifying a safety issue with the power-folding function on the second- and third-row seats.

On March 14, Hyundai said it halted sales and initiated a voluntary recall after safety concerns surfaced around the 2nd- and 3rd-row power seat folding sequences on select All‑New Palisade trims. The recall covers vehicles produced from 2025 through March 11 — about 57,474 units in South Korea and an estimated 68,500 to 74,965 units in North America.

The action was taken proactively after an electric-seat–related incident in Ohio on March 7. Hyundai said the folding sequences for the second and third rows can, under specific conditions, fail to detect contact with occupants or objects.

Hyundai will carry out a voluntary recall for vehicles already sold and plans to notify the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport in South Korea and the U.S. National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) of its corrective action plan.

To strengthen safety, Hyundai will increase the sensitivity of the occupant and object-detection sensors and update the system so the folding function operates only when the tailgate is open. The company also intends to roll out a temporary over-the-air (OTA) software update by the end of the month to improve sensor response and add further safeguards.

Hyundai is working with North American authorities to investigate the Ohio incident and said it will promptly implement any additional measures recommended by the probe.

A Hyundai spokesperson apologized for the inconvenience to customers and said the company will thoroughly review the issue with customer safety as its top priority. The final recall totals are still being compiled as the sales suspension and recall procedures proceed.
