Hyundai Motor has suspended sales of certain new Palisade models in North America amid safety concerns.

On March 13 (local time), Yonhap, citing Reuters, reported that Hyundai halted sales of some Palisade models in the U.S. and Canada and initiated a voluntary product recall.

The recall affects about 68,500 vehicles — 2026 Palisade Limited and the top-of-the-line Calligraphy trims.

Reuters said the action follows the March 7 death of a 2-year-old girl in Ohio in an incident involving a power seat.

Hyundai said certain second- and third-row power seats in some new Palisade models may fail to detect contact with occupants or objects, but it did not disclose details of the Ohio incident.

The company expressed deep condolences to the child’s family and said the matter is under investigation; it has not yet confirmed specific details.

Hyundai plans to release an interim over-the-air software update later this month to strengthen detection of occupants and objects and add additional safety measures.
