General Motors Korea said it welcomes the outcome of constructive talks with the union that resolved differences over ending direct, company-operated service centers. The automaker added it will work closely with the union to ensure the transition is orderly and stable.
Under the agreement, GM Korea and the union will keep three company-operated service centers in Daejeon, Jeonju and Changwon open, but they will be rebranded as Maintenance Service Technical Centers. The company also plans to expand the existing Incheon Bupyeong High‑Tech Center. Some employees from the former company-run centers will remain at those three hubs or at the expanded Bupyeong facility; the remainder will be reassigned to other roles within the company.
The Maintenance Service Technical Centers will specialize in advanced diagnostics and technical support for vehicles with sophisticated systems. Acting as regional technical hubs, they will provide expertise for complex repairs and troubleshooting, strengthening GM Korea’s overall aftersales capabilities.
The Incheon Bupyeong High‑Tech Center will support roughly 380 service locations nationwide by providing technical assistance and knowledge transfer, delivering maintenance training for domestically sold vehicles, and handling high-complexity repair cases.
Robert Treme, vice president of labor relations and human resources at General Motors Korea, said, “Based on these discussions with the union, General Motors Korea will raise the service capabilities of its national network and boost competitiveness, while working to deliver a consistent customer experience across the country.”
GM Korea is pursuing a multi‑brand strategy and offers a diverse product portfolio to domestic customers. Through more than 380 service network locations nationwide, the company applies GM headquarters‑certified technology and standardized procedures to deliver high‑quality service. These efforts underscore General Motors Korea’s continued commitment to the Korean market.
