A driverless Level 4 autonomous shuttle is set to begin regular service across downtown Anyang.
Anyang City held a preview ride on March 10 ahead of the shuttle’s official launch on March 16. Mayor Choi Dae-ho, Vice Mayor Lee Gye-sam and executives from Autonomous A2G attended the event.
Test riders boarded at Anyang City Hall and took a roughly 4 km (about 2.5 miles) route that passed Beomgye Station and ended at the Smart City Integration Center. The shuttle has a top speed of 40 km/h (about 25 mph), is equipped with advanced sensors and real-time monitoring, and is the first vehicle among local governments to be designed without a driver’s seat. For safety, a professional safety attendant will be on board at all times.
The public test route opens to residents on March 16.
Operated in coordination with the Smart City Integration Center program, the service will offer free rides to any resident who makes an advance reservation through Anyang City’s integrated booking website.

Anyang has been a leader in autonomous public transit since 2024. The Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport awarded the city the top A grade in its Autonomous Vehicle Pilot Zone operations evaluation, making Anyang the only local government to earn that rating and confirming its technology and safety performance. The city also secured national funding through consecutive Ministry grant programs and is expanding services with 450 million KRW (approximately $337,500) in national support.
Anyang plans to add Level 4 shuttles on the route connecting Gwanak Station and Anyang Art Park, and starting in April it will extend the existing daytime line to the Pyeongchon Elfroud apartment complex to improve residents’ transit options.
“As a leading autonomous-driving city, I’m pleased that residents can experience smart-transport changes in their daily lives,” Mayor Choi said. “We will continue to push transportation innovation so advanced autonomous driving technology becomes the new standard for public transit.”
