Reserve a preview ride through the city’s integrated reservation website

Anyang City in Gyeonggi Province said on the 10th that it held a preview ride event ahead of the official launch of a driverless Level 4 autonomous shuttle scheduled for the 16th.
The event drew Mayor Choi Jae-ho, Vice Mayor Lee Gye-sam, Han Chi-hyung, CEO of Autonomous A2G Co., Ltd., the city’s honorary citizen director, and Chairman Kim Myung-hwa. Officials and guests tested the new autonomous driving system during the demonstration.
Participants boarded at Anyang City Hall and rode a roughly 4 km (about 2.5 miles) route that passed Beomgye Station and terminated at the Smart City Integrated Center. The demonstration lasted about 30 minutes. The shuttle seats up to nine passengers and can reach a top speed of 40 km/h (about 25 mph). It’s equipped with multiple sensors, a communications-based autonomous driving system, and real-time monitoring capabilities.
This Level 4 driverless shuttle is the first vehicle of its kind among local municipal governments to operate without a steering wheel. For safety, however, one attendant is legally required to be on board to handle emergencies.
The public preview route is part of the Smart City Integrated Center program and opens on the 16th. Any resident can reserve a free ride in advance through Anyang’s integrated reservation website.
After the preview, Mayor Choi said Anyang, as a pioneer in autonomous driving, will let residents be among the first to experience smarter mobility. He added the city will continue advancing transportation innovation to integrate this technology into everyday public transit.
Anyang launched autonomous public transit service in April 2024. Since then, the city has built an operational framework covering services, facilities, regulations, and safety, earning the only A grade among municipal governments in the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport’s “Autonomous Vehicle Pilot Zone Operation Evaluation.”
Last year the city was selected for the Ministry’s autonomous vehicle pilot zone support project for the second consecutive year, securing national funding of 450,000,000 KRW (approximately $337,500 USD). Anyang plans to introduce a new driverless Level 4 shuttle between Gwanak Station and Anyang Art Park, and beginning in April will extend the existing daytime route to the Pyeongchon Elproud apartments to improve residents’ access to public transit.
