● MBUX Superscreen and next‑generation MB.OS software now standard across the lineup
● Plug‑in HYBE&re; (PHEV) performance is significantly upgraded, and a high‑performance AMG 53 joins the range
● Mercedes will build the GLE at its Alabama plant and begin rolling it out in North America in Q2

Mercedes‑Benz has revealed a mid‑cycle refresh of the GLE, its core mid‑size SUV, unveiling the 2027 facelift in Málaga, Spain. The new GLE is more than a styling update: Mercedes reworked the powertrains and added advanced digital systems to sharpen the model’s appeal. The changes are part of the company’s aggressive plan to introduce 40 new models by the end of 2027.

A bold presence shaped by the three‑pointed star and a sleek silhouette
The new GLE leans on the three‑pointed star to reinforce Mercedes’ design DNA. It adopts the star‑shaped daytime running lights introduced on the S‑Class and GLS, and the grille mesh features a refined star motif. For 2027, an illuminated center emblem and lighted grille surround are available as options to boost nighttime presence. The coupe’s fastback roofline emphasizes sportiness, while the AMG 53 wears a dedicated grille and large air intakes that underline its high‑performance intent.

A futuristic cabin transformed by the Superscreen
The biggest interior change is the MBUX Superscreen that spans the dashboard. Three 12.3‑inch displays sit beneath a single glass panel, giving the cabin a clean, futuristic feel. The new operating system, MB.OS, supports over‑the‑air updates (OTA) and integrates Google Maps‑based navigation and an AI‑driven virtual assistant. An augmented‑reality heads‑up display is offered for the first time, projecting driving guidance onto the road ahead. Mercedes also replaces the awkward touch slider with a tactile, roller‑style volume control.

High‑performance V8 and an innovative HYBE&re; drive system
Even as the industry shifts toward electrification, Mercedes hasn’t abandoned internal‑combustion development. The GLE 580’s 4.0‑liter V8 switches from a cross‑plane to a flat‑plane crank for sharper throttle response, boosting peak output to 530 hp. The plug‑in HYBE&re; GLE 500e drops the previous four‑cylinder in favor of a 3.0‑liter inline‑six for stronger on‑road performance and offers roughly 62 miles (WLTP ~100 km) of pure‑electric range. The AMG GLE 53 pairs the HYBE&re; system with its drivetrain for a combined output of 577 hp.
