Kia is targeting consumers squeezed by rising fuel prices with its eco-friendly SUV The New Niro, which delivers a substantial improvement in fuel economy.
Unveiled as the first major update since the 2022 second-generation model, The New Niro offers class-leading efficiency along with significantly upgraded safety and convenience features.
Kia is pitching the model to cost-conscious buyers facing higher fuel bills amid instability in the Middle East, highlighting a combined maximum fuel economy of 20.2㎞/ℓ as a key selling point.

The New Niro is equipped with a 1.6 HYBE Lead powertrain that delivers a combined peak output of 141 horsepower and 27.0㎏f·m of torque.
Kia introduced HYBE Lead–exclusive technologies, including a smart regenerative braking system, a hierarchical predictive-control system, and a Stay Mode.
To improve ride comfort, engineers optimized front- and rear-suspension tuning and increased the density of the dash sound-absorbing pad to block engine noise and enhance cabin quietness.
Safety features were significantly upgraded: Kia added two second-row side airbags, raising the total from eight to 10, and equipped all seats with seatbelt pretensioners.
Those pretensioners, which tighten the belt toward the occupant in a collision, along with front and rear collision-avoidance assist systems and a surround-view monitor, help support safer driving.
Connectivity has been overhauled with the Kia Connect Store for purchasing and subscribing to display themes and premium streaming services, and the natural-language voice-recognition Kia AI Assistant to improve usability.
On the outside, Kia applied its Opposites United design philosophy to convey both refinement and strength.
The front end emphasizes horizontal and vertical lines with Starmap Signature Lighting daytime running lights, while a precisely detailed front bumper and lower grille create a solid, planted look.
The interior delivers a roomy feel with a 2720㎜ wheelbase. A horizontal layout and the next-generation ccNC infotainment system provide both openness and practical functionality.
HYBE Lead variants are likely to attract practical-minded buyers who value best-in-class fuel economy and generous interior space.
