[ThePublic=Reporter Sujin Yoo] Kia has released specifications and pricing for its significantly upgraded eco SUV, the New Niro (hereafter Niro), and began accepting orders on the 10th.
The Niro is a mid-cycle refresh of the second-generation model launched in January 2022. About four years later, Kia sharpened the design, added modern safety and convenience features, and achieved a class-leading combined fuel economy of 20.2 km/L (approximately 47.5 mpg), strengthening the model’s competitiveness.
Kia broadened the vehicle’s mobility features with wireless over-the-air updates (OTA), Walk-Away Lock, Stay Mode and Digital Key 2. The company also elevated safety with 10 airbags, steering-wheel grip detection and an advanced driver-assistance system (ADAS) package that it says sets a class-leading safety benchmark.
◆ Sleek, rugged exterior and a comfortable, practical cabin
Kia applied its Opposites United design language to give the Niro an exterior that is simultaneously refined and assertive.
The front end uses Starmap Signature Lighting daytime running lights with emphasized horizontal and vertical lines to create a modern look. A precisely sculpted bumper and lower grille add a solid presence.
The side profile highlights restrained body lines and a smoothly flowing roof that create a clean silhouette. At the rear, a long horizontal character line centered on the tailgate and diagonal LED rear-combination lamp graphics wrap the rear quarters, giving the car a wider, more stable appearance.
The interior emphasizes openness with a horizontal layout. Kia upgraded materials and added new features to create a pleasant, functional cabin.
Kia fitted a panoramic curved display that combines 12.3-inch cluster and 12.3-inch infotainment screens, simplifying the dashboard and maximizing perceived space. A two-tone double D-cut steering wheel, a new-pattern crash pad and revised floor-console garnishes raise the cabin’s premium feel.
Comfort features include Relaxation Comfort seating for the driver and an Easy Access function on the passenger side to aid entry and exit. Kia also added a Walk-In Device that lets the driver or rear passengers operate the front passenger seat remotely.
The second row now offers reclining seats with finer angle adjustments versus the previous two-position design. Both front and rear rows provide class-leading legroom and headroom to deliver generous space and a comfortable ride.
The Niro will be offered in seven exterior colors, including a new Ivory Silver, and three interior color schemes that now include two new options: Deep Navy & Brown and Blue Gray.
◆ Strong fuel economy, HYBE-specific systems, and improved ride refinement
The Niro is powered by a 1.6 HYBE powertrain that produces a system peak output of 141 PS (about 139 hp), maximum torque of 27.0 kgf·m (about 195 lb-ft) and a combined fuel economy of 20.2 km/L (16-inch wheels, per Ministry of Industry reporting). Kia added HYBE-specific features including a Smart Regenerative Braking System, a HYBE-layered predictive control system and Stay Mode.
The Smart Regenerative Braking System automatically adjusts regeneration levels by evaluating not only the distance to the vehicle ahead but also navigation data and driving conditions, improving driving ease. The HYBE-layered predictive control system predicts the route and road conditions to the destination and optimizes battery charge management to boost real-world efficiency.
Stay Mode lets occupants use certain in-car conveniences for a set period on high-voltage battery power only while parked in P, without the engine idling—useful for situations like waiting to pick up children.
Kia optimized front and rear suspension tuning for a more comfortable ride. The company increased the density of the dash sound-absorbing pad to reduce engine noise intrusion and reinforced the rear cross-member mounting bushings to improve overall NVH, delivering a quieter, more comfortable cabin.
◆ Upgraded infotainment, safety and convenience features deliver an above-segment experience
Kia equipped the Niro with a broad set of new infotainment, safety and convenience features to provide a more refined and secure user experience than typically offered in its class.
The Niro supports wireless software updates to keep navigation maps and key electronic control functions current. It also features an e-Hi-Pass function so drivers can pay tolls without a physical Hi-Pass card.
Built on the new ccNC system, the car offers the Kia Connect Store—where owners can purchase or subscribe to display themes and premium streaming services—and Kia AI Assistant, a natural-language voice service that improves connectivity usability.
Kia added 10 airbags, including second-row side airbags, and seatbelt pretensioners at all seating positions. Advanced driver aids include Highway Driving Assist 2, steering-wheel grip detection, Lane Keeping Assist 2, Forward Collision-Avoidance Assist (with cross-traffic, side-approaching vehicle and oncoming-vehicle/overtaking evasive steering assist features), Surround View Monitor and Rear Cross-Traffic Collision-Avoidance Assist for forward exit scenarios. These systems strengthen both driving and parking safety.
Other modern conveniences include Digital Key 2, Walk-Away Lock, Built-in Cam 2 Plus, augmented reality navigation, a 100W USB-C port and After Blow—features Kia says help the Niro punch above its segment on equipment.
◆ Prices start at ₩28,850,000 (≈ USD 21,638)…launch marketing to target diverse buyers
After eco-vehicle tax incentives, the Niro’s prices are: Trendy ₩28,850,000 (≈ USD 21,638), Prestige ₩31,950,000 (≈ USD 23,963) and Signature ₩34,640,000 (≈ USD 25,980).
Kia will offer tailored financing and purchase incentives for a range of buyers.
Under the M Installment Standard plan (equal principal and interest), rates are 2.5% for 36- and 48-month terms and 3.9% for 60 months. Choosing the Residual Value Deferred Installment option lets buyers defer up to 64% of the vehicle price for up to 36 months at a 3.6% rate, reducing monthly payments and easing concerns about used-car depreciation.
For example, a buyer who purchases a Niro priced at ₩28,850,000 using the residual-value deferred plan with a 30% down payment would pay about ₩110,000 (≈ USD 83) per month for 36 months.
To help offset fuel costs, Kia will run a three-month fuel-support promotion that provides roughly ₩200,000 (≈ USD 150) to customers who pay at least ₩10,000,000 (≈ USD 7,500) in advance with a Hyundai Card. Existing Niro or K3 owners who repurchase the new Niro will also receive a ₩500,000 (≈ USD 375) incentive.
Through a trade-in program, Kia will offer a ₩500,000 (≈ USD 375) new-car discount when customers sell their vehicle to Kia Certified Used Cars. Depending on certified used-car sale conditions, Kia may add another ₩500,000 (≈ USD 375) in buyback incentives—providing up to ₩1,000,000 (≈ USD 750) in trade-in benefits.
For instance, an existing Niro or K3 owner who sells their car through Kia Certified Used Cars and then orders and takes delivery of the new Niro could receive up to ₩1,500,000 (≈ USD 1,125) in total benefits: ₩1,000,000 (≈ USD 750) in new-car discounts (including the ₩500,000 (≈ USD 375) repurchase incentive) plus ₩500,000 (≈ USD 375) in certified-used-car buyback compensation.
Kia will roll out an advertising campaign on the 10th to showcase the Niro’s practical value for varied lifestyles, and it plans collaborative video content featuring singer Lee Juck and film critic Dong-jin Lee.
From the 13th through the 29th, Kia will stage pop-up displays at major venues—such as Goyang Starfield and Hanam Starfield—so customers can see and experience the new Niro in person.
A Kia spokesperson said, “As Kia’s flagship eco model, the Niro has earned strong customer loyalty thanks to its excellent fuel economy and practical versatility. The new Niro’s cleaner styling and upgraded safety and convenience features make it an attractive option for buyers seeking an efficient, practical compact SUV.”
