Accelerating Dominance in the Premium Electric MPV Market
Denza, BYD’s premium marque, will open preorders for the new D9 MPV in China on March 29.
The 2026 D9 preserves the strengths of the outgoing model while receiving substantial upgrades focused on battery and charging performance.
Notably, the D9 will be offered in both plug-in hybrid (PHEV) and pure-electric (BEV) configurations to broaden its market reach.
Minimal Design Changes…Preserves Build Quality
Exterior changes are concentrated at the front end.
A redesigned grille gives the front more presence, while the overall MPV silhouette remains largely unchanged.
The D9’s dimensions are 5,250 mm overall with a 3,110 mm wheelbase, delivering the interior space expected of a full-size MPV (5,250 mm ≈ 206.7 in; 3,110 mm ≈ 122.4 in).
The minimal changes appear designed to retain the D9’s existing customers while sharpening its product appeal.

Enhanced Electrified Performance
The D9 will be available with two powertrains: PHEV and BEV.
The PHEV pairs a 1.5‑liter turbocharged engine with dual electric motors to deliver more than 400 km (about 249 miles) of electric-only range.
The BEV version claims up to 800 km on the CLTC cycle (roughly 497 miles), and the all-wheel-drive variant produces about 550 hp of system output.
That combination positions the D9 near the top of the segment for electrified performance among large MPVs.

Rewriting the Premium MPV Playbook
The new D9 is fitted with BYD’s Short Blade 2.0 battery.
That pack supports ultra-fast charging, taking the battery from 10% to 70% in about five minutes and up to 97% in around nine minutes.
BYD also equips the D9 with its latest "God's Eye 5.0" driver-assistance system, improving both safety and convenience on the road.
Industry sources say Denza already controls roughly 60% of China’s premium electric MPV market, and these upgrades should accelerate its push into international markets.
