The Blue House said a detailed analysis is needed of the unidentified aerial system that struck the South Korean vessel Namu in the Strait of Hormuz. A Blue House official said on May 12, \"We cannot yet determine the aircraft type from the wreckage, including the engine components recovered from the Namu.\" He added, \"Through additional investigation we will identify the attacker, the exact model and the physical dimensions.\"
Some outlets previously identified the system as a Shahed-136, but the government warned against relying on unverified reports and said it will wait for the joint investigation team's technical analysis.
A senior Blue House official said the day before, \"Whether Iran is involved remains unknown. We are examining multiple state possibilities and will calibrate our response appropriately once we reach a conclusion.\"
Meanwhile, National Security Office Director Wi Seong-rak said, \"An attack on a civilian vessel can never be justified. The government strongly condemns it.\" He assessed that, \"Given the damage pattern from blast pressure and the hemispherical penetration profile, a mine or torpedo strike appears unlikely. Further investigation is required to determine the specific aerial system.\"
