A UN peacekeeper was killed in southern Lebanon, where fighting continues between Israel and the Iran-aligned militant group Hezbollah.

Reuters and other outlets reported that on the night of the 29th local time, a projectile exploded near a checkpoint outside a village in southern Lebanon, killing one Indonesian peacekeeper and wounding three others.

The UN mission said it has opened an investigation into the incident. This is the first death of a peacekeeper in Lebanon since Hezbollah entered the fighting on Iran’s side on March 2.

UN Secretary-General António Guterres condemned the attack, saying assaults on peacekeepers are a serious violation of international law and could constitute a war crime.
