[Sports Today reporter Kim Tae-hyung] IU and Byeon Woo-seok — the "Grand Prince" couple poised to shake up the 21st century — are already generating buzz.

MBC's new Friday–Saturday drama, '21st Century Grand Prince's Wife,' premieres April 10. Set in a 21st-century constitutional monarchy version of South Korea, the series follows a status-defying romance between a chaebol heiress who seems to have it all yet is constrained by her commoner status, and a royal son who, despite his lineage, is forbidden to possess the life he wants as they each try to carve out their own destinies.

In the drama, Castle Beauty CEO Seong Hee-ju (IU) has the looks, talent and wealth, but the entrenched aristocracy brands her an illegitimate commoner, repeatedly limiting her opportunities. Prince Lee An (Byeon Woo-seok), admired by the public for his handsome looks and natural bearing, hides his true self because, as the royal family's second son, he is expected neither to stand out nor to speak up.

When Seong Hee-ju and Prince Lee An abruptly announce their marriage, the country's 21st-century constitutional monarchy is thrown into upheaval. As the unexpected union provokes speculation, newly released promotional photos teasing their romance have attracted attention.

The stills capture moments from the past, present and future that lead the two toward marriage. In particular, images from their days as students at the royal academy were released, prompting curiosity about the couple's shared school memories.

The photos also show how the two — who initially meet as influential figures representing industry and the royal household — gradually grow closer as newlyweds. Viewers are left wondering what inevitable forces will bring a commoner-born chaebol and a grand prince together despite their social divide.

Catch IU as the chaebol and Byeon Woo-seok as the grand prince in MBC's new Friday–Saturday drama '21st Century Grand Prince's Wife.'
