[iNews24 reporter Yurim Jeong] Kakao kicked off the second Brunch Reading Challenge on April 29 to promote healthy reading habits and give local bookstores a boost.
After a January debut, this round is open to any Brunch subscriber—there’s no participant limit. You can sign up even after the challenge starts. The 30-day challenge runs from 11 a.m. on May 6 through midnight on June 4.
Participants log their reading using Brunch’s Live Reading feature. Live Reading times your sessions and tracks how much you read in real time—think of it like a running app for books—and lets you publish notes.
Anyone who posts reading notes on 3 or more days will be entered into a random drawing. 1,000 winners will receive a special edition of Hwang Boreum’s bestseller, Welcome to Hyunam-dong Bookstore, plus exclusive Brunch Reading Club merch. All participants will get a Brunch Reading Challenge Talk digital card.
The special edition will be available for pre-order on the Kakao Makers platform in June. In July, Hwang Boreum will appear as a bookstore keeper at Marisosa in Gunsan to meet readers in person.
Oh Seong-jin, head of Kakao Brunch, said, \"The last challenge showed us that reading and recording can create a win‑win cycle that helps revive local bookstores. We’ll keep building an ecosystem on Brunch where reading and writing circulate naturally.\"
