[Sports Seoul | Reporter Wi Su-jeong] Actress Ko So-young opened her closet for the first time in her 35-year career, revealing a luxury collection that spans decades.
Ko uploaded a video to her YouTube channel on the 12th titled "Human Chanel Ko So-young's Closet — First Reveal in 35 Years." She left the closet as-is and joked, "No one sees it, so I kept the door shut," prompting laughter.
Her closet was packed with pieces she’s collected over the years. Pulling out a Chanel bag she bought in the 1990s, she said, "I paid about 2,000,000 KRW (≈ $1,500 USD) back then—bag prices are so expensive now." She also showed a vintage 1980s Chanel inherited from her mother and aunt. "I like items that show age and wear," she said, adding that she'll sell some items and pass others on to her daughter. When the crew marveled that Chanel seemed to be everywhere, Ko replied, "I've kept them carefully," which drew another laugh.
She also reflected on her relationship with Hermès Birkin bags. Ko recalled buying one for about 5,000,000 KRW (≈ $3,750 USD) after L'Oréal invited her to the Cannes Film Festival around 1996. "Back then, foreign women would casually toss these expensive bags onto the sand, and it looked so cool," she said. She admitted she stopped visiting Hermès for a while because "you have to buy unnecessary things just to get a bag," but when asked how many Birkins she owns, she candidly answered, "More than 10," to laughter.
A Hermès bag her husband, Jang Dong-gun, bought for her also made an appearance. Ko called it "my favorite bag" and said, "He treats me well." She laughed as she explained his shopping style is unusual: "He's not the type to say, 'I'll buy you a bag' and go to the department store with me—he buys it first and then asks me for the money." wsj0114@sportsseoul.com
