[MyDaily = Reporter Bang Geum-suk] CU announced on the 12th that, with summer heat arriving earlier this year, it’s ramping up its beauty and fashion lines to capture demand ahead of schedule.
Forecasts call for daytime highs in Seoul to hit about 73°F (23°C) in the third week of April, so the company moved the rollout of sun-care products and functional apparel forward by roughly a month.
This month CU will begin launching sun-care items in partnership with well-known brands like TonyMoly and AHC. At the end of the month, it plans an exclusive release of three products, including SNP Aqua Sun Cream.
CU is also expanding its deodorant and body-spray selection for summer hygiene and will offer discounts of up to 50% on all related items through September.
On the fashion side, CU released its functional cooling wear, Snow Tex, last month—about 40 days earlier than last year—and will continue growing the lineup with items such as summer kids’ clothing featuring Sanrio characters.
The chain has introduced a convenience-store clothing specialty concept as well. In collaboration with sports brand FCMM, it launched 16 pieces, including short-sleeve T-shirts.
The company says it will partner with well-known domestic fashion labels to expand a differentiated, value-driven fashion assortment.
Lim Hyung-geun, head of merchandising at BGF Retail, said, "We proactively introduced summer items—from sunscreens to functional apparel—to prepare for the early heat. Our aim is to make it easy for customers to get summer-ready in their everyday lives."
