TV personality Seo Dong-ju revealed she suffered a miscarriage.
On April 2, she uploaded a video to her YouTube channel 'Seo Dong-ju's Tto.Do.Dong' titled "Maybe it's not my time to become a mother yet. Chilbok, let's meet again next season!"
In the video, Seo said, "Today, after a missed miscarriage, I underwent a dilation and curettage (D&C) and said goodbye to Chilbok." Earlier, on March 12, she had shared worrying pregnancy test numbers and revealed that she had been calling the fetus "Chilbok." At the time she said, "I finally had my first embryo transfer. Thankfully, on day seven the home pregnancy test showed a faint positive. I wondered, 'Am I really pregnant?'" She added that life doesn't hand out joy easily and that her low hCG levels left her anxious. In the end, she delivered the heartbreaking news of the miscarriage.
Seo described the lengths she went to in hopes of saving the pregnancy: "I wanted to protect Chilbok at all costs, so I took daily injections, took medication, used vaginal suppositories, and tracked every blood value through testing. I did everything I could. Maybe it just wasn't my time yet." She admitted, "Even though I know life doesn't always give you what you want when you want it, I still feel hurt and disappointed." She also thanked viewers for the outpouring of support she received.
She added, "This has made me rethink what it means to become a mother. If I can't endure this level of pain and waiting, this anxiety and time, can I truly carry a life to the end? I don't think that's the only answer — suffering alone doesn't determine one's fitness for motherhood." Seo said she feels her resolve strengthening little by little and that she still wants to try again.
Seo is the daughter of the late Seo Se-won and broadcaster Seo Jeong-hee. A licensed U.S. attorney, she is also active as a television personality. In June of last year she remarried a man who works in the entertainment industry, four years her junior, and has been pursuing in vitro fertilization due to infertility.
