On the evening of the 11th, KBS 1TV’s Living Together with Hwang Shin-hye kicks off a curated, globe-trotting mini-series around Gapyeong planned by Hwang Shin-hye.
The first stop, “Peru in Gapyeong,” takes the cast to a ranch home to alpacas, Peru’s iconic animal. Hwang invites Park Young-sun, one of South Korea’s first top models, to join. Park was a defining presence in 1990s fashion, moving seamlessly between commercials, acting and variety TV. She was also a muse to the late designer Andre Kim and is remembered for the “Chilgapsan” stunt—removing seven layers of clothing one by one on stage. In this episode, Park delivers a flawless recreation of the act, earning applause. Hwang gives the performance a try as well, amplifying the moment with dramatic eye work. Off-camera, Park opens up about her private life, revealing that after her divorce she had no choice but to leave her son in the United States.
The second stop, “France in Gapyeong,” brings the group to a French home-style restaurant. Over the meal, Park traces her life story—from deciding to marry at lightning speed to enduring a difficult career hiatus. She married after just three months of dating and tells younger women preparing for marriage to “experience all four seasons” first. Hwang responds candidly that you still can’t be certain. Park says she’s essentially become a workaholic, expanding her career from modeling into stage directing and forging a second act. She adds that the break in her career allowed her to return with a rookie’s humility and rediscover the joy of working—a sentiment that struck a chord with single mothers in the group.
The final stop, “Japan in Gapyeong,” finds the four arriving at a traditional ryokan-style inn. Hwang proposes a team game, pitting Hwang and Jung Ga-eun against Park and Jang Yoon-jung in a pride-fueled showdown. Hwang ramps up the intensity with fiery coaching, while Park keeps the competition tense by raising unexpected objections. The episode will reveal which team comes out on top. After the contest, the quartet soaks their feet outdoors and shares an earnest conversation. Park lets her doting side show, speaking openly about the kind of mother she aspires to be.
