Cheerleader Jung Ga-ye announced she will suspend her activities.
On the 15th, Jung wrote on social media that while she was working she was subjected to insults and shouted abuse in front of many people. She said it made no sense to assume she had done something to deserve it or that it was her fault.
Jung said she was so frightened that she sat in a restroom and cried until just before the game and ultimately could not finish that day’s performance. She added that she tried to continue but was told to leave.
She said she has been shaken but is receiving hospital treatment and has been comforted by colleagues who experienced similar abuse. Jung said she is grateful that many people believe her, because that support has allowed her to step away from work and focus on recovery.
She apologized to fans, writing that she is not sure whether she can return to work. “Even if I can’t go back to how things were, I will do my best to let these wounds heal,” she said.
Jung, who cheered for the KIA Tigers from 2018 through 2025, has worked across several sports this year, including pro volleyball’s Suwon Korea Electric Power Big Storm and pro basketball’s Anyang Jeonggwanjang Red Boosters.
