Actor Lee Jae-ryong, 61, has admitted to driving under the influence and has appeared at the police station as a suspect for questioning.

Seoul’s Gangnam Police Station summoned Lee around 2 p.m. on the 10th and is questioning him on allegations of drunk driving and leaving the scene after an accident.

According to investigators, on the night of the 6th at about 11 p.m., Lee struck a center median near Samsung Jungang Station on Seoul Subway Line 9 and fled. The crash caused no injuries, but it damaged the median.

After the incident, Lee returned home and parked his car before visiting an acquaintance. Around 2 a.m. the following morning, he voluntarily accompanied police for questioning. A breath test registered at a level that would trigger a license suspension.

On the 7th, Lee told police he had consumed four shots of soju before the crash and acknowledged he had been driving under the influence. He returned to the station on the 10th as a suspect and is currently undergoing further questioning.

Lee has a prior record of alcohol-related incidents. In 2003, he was charged after a drunk-driving crash and for refusing a breath test, which led to his license being revoked. In 2019, prosecutors issued a suspended indictment after he damaged a sidewalk sign while intoxicated at a Gangnam bowling alley.

In the wake of this latest controversy, a YouTube drinking-talk segment featuring Lee drew renewed scrutiny and reignited criticism of celebrities’ so-called “drinking-room” content. The channel Jjanhan Hyung set the video featuring Lee to private on the 23rd of last month and, as the backlash grew following his police questioning, ultimately removed his appearance.
