[Seoul=Newsis] Reporter Dong Hyo-jeong — Cosmax, the global cosmetics ODM known for research, development, and manufacturing, announced on March 10 that it will begin analyzing the skin microbiomes of Indonesian consumers.
The company says it will closely study how the hot, humid climate affects skin, build a localized database (DB), and use the insights to create premium, personalized skincare solutions.
Cosmax Indonesia has signed a research agreement in Jakarta with the Indonesian National Research and Innovation Agency (BRIN) to develop the Nusantara Skin Microbiome Map and advance local skin-microbiome research.
BRIN is the presidentially affiliated national research agency that sets R&D strategy and manages government research budgets. It conducts research in strategic sectors like bio and health and partners with companies on joint studies and technology commercialization.
Cosmax will analyze skin-microbiome samples from 410 participants—both people with healthy skin and those with acne-prone skin—across three major cities on Java: Jakarta, Yogyakarta, and Surabaya.
With the microbiome map as a foundation, Cosmax plans to expand research into climate-adapted products that reflect local skin traits and to develop solutions for neighboring markets.
Notably, as Indonesian shoppers increasingly seek affordable, high-performing, and personalized beauty, the company says it will scale up R&D to create reasonably priced products tailored to local skin needs.
