Hyundai Department Store’s Mok-dong branch has completed its largest overhaul of the living-goods hall since the store opened in 2002, stepping up hands-on experiences for shoppers.

Hyundai Department Store said on May 5 that it finished renovating the roughly 500 pyeong (about 17,800 square feet) living hall on the B1 level and will reopen the redesigned space to customers. The remodel reconfigured the area to reflect the lifestyles of Mok-dong shoppers, who show strong demand for premium home goods.

The store introduced a sleep-management area called the "Sleep Fitting Room," where customers can test mattresses from brands such as Simmons and Tempur to find the best sleep setup. Hyundai also partnered with the sleep-and-relaxation YouTube channel "Brainer J" and fragrance curator "ScentOn" to add sound and scent, extending the experience beyond tactile testing.

The retailer also broadened its brand mix. It added Nordic labels like Fritz Hansen, StayH and &Tradition, and will present brands aimed at shoppers in their 30s and 40s — including Baekjo Sink, Ceres Home and Size Of — in popup formats.

To mark the reopening, the store is offering furniture discounts of up to 20% and purchase-based gift incentives of up to 15%.

A Hyundai Department Store spokesperson said, "We focused not merely on improving the space but on proposing new living concepts that reflect customers' lifestyles."

Department stores have recently been beefing up experiential spaces to offer services that set them apart from online retail. Lotte Department Store’s Incheon branch reorganized its first-floor luxury hall and reopened it on May 1.

Shinsegae Department Store’s Hanam branch recently revamped its first-floor young-fashion and children’s sections, expanding both floor space and customer flow. Shinsegae Daegu completed a major renovation in February — its first in 10 years since opening — and added new popup areas.
