[Herald Economy reporter Jang Yoon-woo] Singer Bae Da-hae has opened up about moving in with her 100-year-old grandfather-in-law.On April 26, Bae posted a photo to Instagram captioned, “Grandpa’s same breakfast every day.” The picture showed a simple morning spread of boiled eggs, fruit, salad, and sweet potato. She wrote that she tried preparing the same meal to see if it was his secret to longevity, but couldn’t manage it — especially the blended vegetables.
Earlier, Bae announced on her YouTube channel that she had “a new roommate,” revealing that she and her husband had moved into the home where his grandfather had lived alone for nearly 30 to 40 years. The family decided to live together after worrying about him being alone at night.
The apartment’s layout drew attention. Bae said the grandfather uses two large rooms while the couple occupies three smaller ones, joking that they are “living in tiny rooms.” The space was partially remodeled before they moved in.
Despite his age, the grandfather remains remarkably alert. He has good hearing and can use a smartphone to call a KakaoTaxi, and although knee pain sometimes confines him to a wheelchair, he still goes to the movies and eats out with the couple. Bae said she admires how he keeps a regular diet and daily routine.
As the eldest grandson, Bae’s husband Lee Jang-won has been accompanying his grandfather to medical appointments and handling meal care. Bae said a care system was already in place, but now they share the same living space. “It was awkward at first,” she said, “but we’re gradually adapting to each other’s routines.”
Bae Da-hae and Lee Jang-won were married in 2021.
