[Anchor] Sunny skies have spread across the country, and plenty of people have headed outdoors. In Gunpo, Gyeonggi Province, a pink azalea festival has drawn big crowds. We’re going live to the scene. Kang Su-ji, over to you. [Reporter] Can you see the pink world the azaleas have created behind me? I’m at Azalea Hill in Gunpo, Gyeonggi Province. The holiday brought clear, sunny spring weather, and visitors are streaming in to soak up the blooms and make some spring memories. What used to be a barren hillside dotted with transmission towers has been transformed by city officials and residents planting azalea saplings. The Gunpo Azalea Festival has become the city’s signature spring event and is now in its 12th year. Over 220,000 azalea bushes flood the hill with pink, giving the whole area an unmistakable spring vibe. The flowers grow in clusters along the slope rather than on flat ground, so nearly any snapshot you take will have a dreamy floral backdrop. A gently sloping, decked walkway winds up and down the hill, making the blooms easy to enjoy for people of all ages. The festival has featured music stages, a citizen singing contest, and a traditional nongak parade. Today visitors can also browse an azalea market, enter a photo contest, and view artwork by Gunpo residents. This year’s festival adds nighttime lighting displays, offering a whole new, romantic look after dark. It’s the perfect spot to celebrate spring with family, a date, or your best friends. I’m Kang Su-ji with Yonhap News TV, reporting live from the Gunpo Azalea Festival.
