The CEN News / Reporter Lee Joo-sang | Yeonggwang County is opening additional spots for its flagship tourism program, the Yeonggwang Comma Trip, to welcome more visitors during May — a peak month for family travel.
Yeonggwang County said that after April's sign-ups filled early, it will add 3,000 more spots for the May Yeonggwang Comma Trip. The extra slots go live on the program website at 10 a.m. on the 14th and will be offered on a first-come, first-served basis.
The Yeonggwang Comma Trip subsidizes part of travel expenses so visitors can explore the area without breaking the bank. It draws particular interest in May, when family getaway demand peaks.
Officials say the additional sign-ups should attract more visitors to Yeonggwang, increase local spending, and boost revenue for hotels and restaurants, creating measurable economic benefits.
Visitor numbers are expected to rise further in May as a variety of cultural events take place across the county.
From May 16–17, the nationwide Beopseongpo Supjaengi National Gugak (traditional Korean music) competition will be held, followed by the Beopseongpo Dano Festival street celebration on the 21st. The holiday stretch through the 25th, which includes Buddha’s Birthday, is also expected to increase travel demand.
Yeonggwang is home to attractions like Bulgapsa Temple, the Baeksu Coastal Road, Chilsan Tower, and Beopseongpo Gulbi Street — making it a great destination for families, couples and groups of friends.
A county official said, “May is the perfect month for family trips. Through the Yeonggwang Comma Trip, we hope visitors can relax and make memories without financial stress, while also helping to energize the local economy. We will do our best to run the program smoothly.”
