Goheung County in South Jeolla is rolling out back-to-back, hands-on festivals that blend space and sea to attract visitors during the May holidays.
On the 30th, officials announced a lineup of regionwide festivals and food events for Korea’s Family Month. This year’s programming centers on space activities at the Naro Space Center paired with marine tourism around Nokdong Port.
First up, the Nokdong Sea Fireworks Festival runs April 30–May 3 around Nokdong Port. Evenings at Nokdong Sea Garden will mix live performances with drone shows and multimedia fireworks. Nearby Eel Street serves dishes made from local specialties.
On site, expect a Nuri rocket engine exhibit, space-robot demonstrations, and hands-on space-food experiences designed with families in mind.
Also in May, clams and pen shells (giant scallops) come into season, and local restaurants will showcase related dishes. With Goheung Hanwoo beef on menus as well, diners will find plenty of delicious options.
A county official said, “We prepared this lineup so visitors who come during the May holiday can enjoy the mysteries of space and the romance of the sea at the same time. In Goheung — an open-air museum — we hope people enjoy good food with loved ones and make unforgettable memories.”
