President Lee Jae-myung visited the Moran Traditional Five-Day Market in Seongnam and met with residents and vendors. Blue House senior spokesperson Kang Yoo-jung said in a written briefing on May 14 that the president toured the market and greeted people there. The Moran market is one of the largest traditional five-day markets in the greater Seoul area. While serving as mayor of Seongnam, Lee led efforts to improve the environment there and to carry out relocation and redevelopment projects. Kang said locals greeted the president with comments such as "Welcome to Seongnam, Mr. President" and "We always support you." She added that one vendor shouted, "I've missed you so much!" and hugged the president tightly. Around the market, people also reminisced about Lee's time as mayor. Yu Jeom-su, head of the Moran Traditional Five-Day Market vendors' association, told the president that Lee had moved the market to the current parking-lot site. When Lee asked about the number of stalls, Yu said the total had fallen sharply and that about 450 remain, noting the aging vendor population and shifts in the local commercial landscape. At the market, the president sampled foods such as oranda and jujube with his aides. Yonhap News TV inquiries and tips: KakaoTalk/Line jebo23; Lee Da-hyeon (ok@yna.co.kr)
