Violinist Kim Mi-ryung will give a recital on May 2 at Sejong Chamber Hall in Seoul, featuring works by Maurice Ravel, Gabriel Fauré, and Camille Saint-Saëns. She will be joined by pianist Piotr Kupka.
A graduate of Ewha Womans University and Michigan State University, Kim has built a career that spans solo recitals, chamber music and orchestral leadership. Her training on both violin and viola has contributed to a warm, balanced tone and a broad approach to string interpretation.
She made her Carnegie Hall debut and has appeared across Asia and the United States. Her orchestral experience includes posts with ensembles in Chicago, Michigan, and Korea.
She opens the program with Ravel's Sonata for Violin and Piano in A minor (Posthume), a work noted for its crystalline textures and early lyricism.
She follows with Fauré's Romance in B-flat Major, Op. 28, and Après un rêve, Op. 7, No. 1—pieces that highlight refined melody and the inward, nuanced expression of French Romanticism.
The recital concludes with Saint-Saëns' Violin Sonata No. 1 in D minor, Op. 75, which pairs virtuosic passagework with structural precision and requires close coordination between violin and piano.
Taken together, the program emphasizes tonal color, phrasing, and balance, offering a concentrated exploration of French musical aesthetics.
