[MyDaily = Reporter Kang Da-yun] MBC said it was disappointed with JTBC after talks to repurchase the TV broadcast rights for the 2026 FIFA CONCACAF World Cup collapsed.

An MBC spokesperson said on April 22 that the company had sent JTBC a proposal the day before to reopen negotiations for the 2026 CONCACAF World Cup TV rights. Rather than responding to the proposal, JTBC told the media today that the talks had broken down.

The spokesperson said MBC deeply regrets that JTBC unilaterally announced the end of negotiations without notifying the other party. MBC added it will continue to negotiate broadcast rights for future sporting events in good faith and seek amicable resolutions.

Earlier, JTBC said it had finalized a joint broadcast with KBS after resale talks over the CONCACAF World Cup TV rights. Reports say JTBC made a final offer of 14 billion KRW (approximately 10.5 million USD) to the three terrestrial broadcasters. KBS accepted, but MBC and SBS countered with offers in the 12 billion KRW range (roughly 9 million USD), and negotiations reportedly fell apart.
