This jaw-dropping single-family home was artfully reborn from an abandoned cement factory and is turning heads for its striking design. Located in Xiamen, Fujian Province, China, the 89-pyeong residence (about 3,167 sq ft / 294 m²) was created for a woodworking enthusiast and offers a calm, meditative retreat. The pared-down, restrained interiors are what really steal the show.

The owners wanted a spiritual sanctuary that soothes both body and mind. The design celebrates the beauty of subtraction—think intentional emptiness—and delivers minimalist interiors at their most poetic.

The living room preserves the factory’s original cylindrical shell. With its soaring ceiling and circular volume, it becomes a dramatic, almost cinematic centerpiece. A raw concrete ceiling meets warm wood floors, and thoughtfully placed sofas, armchairs, beanbags and a tea table create a relaxed, peaceful lounge.

A broad corridor with a wooden bench links the living room to the kitchen. There, a streamlined oversized island sink sits beside a solid wood dining table, creating a clean, orderly kitchen that harmonizes effortlessly with the rest of the home.
