[MyDaily = Reporter Han So-hee] Comedian Lee Su-ji captured the female variety award in the broadcasting category for the second year in a row.
The 62nd Baeksang Arts Awards were held on the afternoon of May 8 at COEX D Hall in Gangnam, Seoul.
Now in its 62nd year, the Baeksang Arts Awards were founded in 1965 to celebrate and advance Korea's popular culture and arts. Traditionally honoring achievements in broadcasting, film and theater, the ceremony added a musical category this year to mark the 60th anniversary of Korean musical theater.
Nominees greeted host Shin Dong-yup’s tense delivery with playful, laughter-tinged protests that energized the room. TV personalities Hong Jin-kyung and Jang Do-yeon gave lively reactions to the cameras, and when Lee Su-ji’s name was announced, she was overcome with emotion and wiped away tears.
Onstage, Lee began by thanking the SNL Korea team. \"I really thank and love the SNL Korea team,\" she said. \"I don't think I'm a special person — I just do somewhat unusual work. Still, there were times when the pressure got to me and I struggled.\"
She expressed particular gratitude to veteran host Shin Dong-yup, recalling his encouragement: \"He told me that if you carry warmth in your heart while you work, you'll ultimately pull it off beautifully.\" She also thanked the senior colleagues who share good stories and everyone who helps bring laughter to audiences.
Lee joked about her segment \"Hot Issue Z,\" noting that while many viewers assume it's improvised, most of it is actually scripted, drawing laughs from the audience. She thanked viewers for watching and said she plans to continue highlighting ordinary people who quietly do their work across society.
With Parents' Day approaching, Lee also spoke about her family. \"My father-in-law is very ill; I hope he can watch the broadcast and at least smile for a moment,\" she said, adding that she wanted to thank her mother and tell her she loves her.
Nominees for the female variety award in the broadcasting category included Hong Jin-kyung, Jang Do-yeon, Lee Su-ji, Seol In-a and Kim Yeon-kyung.
