Wyndham Goseong Gangwon, perched on Korea’s northeastern coast in Goseong, Gangwon Province, officially opened on the 27th with a dazzling grand opening gala.

Under the theme "First Light of the East Sea: Hospitality Begins in Goseong," the celebration welcomed roughly 200 domestic and international VIPs and industry guests.

Rather than a traditional ribbon-cutting, the hotel staged a "Sunrise Key Moment" performance — a theatrical tribute to the East Sea and the hotel’s new beginning. The symbolic moment drew warm, enthusiastic applause from the audience.

The evening kicked off with a reception in the Emerald Ballroom. Guests enjoyed a welcome performance, the official opening ceremony, and speeches and toasts from key figures. The night continued with a private dinner gala and a lineup of celebratory performances that elevated the event.

Ben Schumacher, vice president for Asia Pacific at Wyndham Hotels & Resorts, called the opening "an important milestone" — the company's first managed hotel in South Korea. He said the launch will strengthen Wyndham’s position in Korea’s fast-recovering tourism market.

He added that Wyndham Goseong Gangwon was designed to be more than a place to stay. It’s meant to be a destination for leisure travelers, families and MICE (meetings, incentives, conferences and exhibitions) clients, and to become a new hospitality landmark for Gangwon Province.

Schumacher also noted that the company will keep expanding and deepening partnerships in Korea, building on its current footprint of seven brands and 29 hotels in the market.

Wyndham Goseong Gangwon is a large-scale property with 529 rooms, and every guestroom offers views of the East Sea.

The hotel offers a distinctive relaxation and lifestyle experience with amenities such as an infinity pool, a private pool zone and the all-day dining restaurant Ananas, among other facilities.

General Manager Lee Young-han said the property aims to present a new lifestyle that harmonizes with nature rather than merely providing lodging. Backed by Wyndham’s global network, he added, the hotel will help revitalize local tourism and grow into a new landmark on the East Coast.

Wyndham Hotels & Resorts operates more than 8,300 hotels across roughly 100 countries and is the world’s largest hotel franchising company, offering global travelers a broad portfolio of brands and choices.

Wyndham Goseong Gangwon is expected to attract increasing numbers of domestic and international visitors and, through close collaboration with the local community, establish itself as Gangwon Province’s premier premium tourism destination.
