[Sports Seoul | Reporter Won Seong-yun] Korail Tourism Development announced on the 20th that, in partnership with the Jeonbuk office of the Korea Tourism Organization, it will operate a one-day \"Marine Tourism Train Trip\" to Gochang in North Jeolla Province on May 2.
Launched for May — the perfect month to head to the sea — this day trip showcases Gochang’s marine ecosystem, a UNESCO-recognized natural heritage site, and the 2026 Gochang Green Barley Field Festival. Travelers board the dedicated Paldo Jangteo Tourist Train at Seoul Station, with stops at Yeongdeungpo, Suwon, and Cheonan, and can choose between two curated itineraries.
The first option, the Ecological Experience course, takes visitors to the Ramsar-designated Gochang Mudflat Center and the green barley festival grounds. A professional guide accompanies participants on a mudflat exploration by electric bus, and rare-bird watching is included for a deeper, hands-on look at Gochang’s coastal ecology.
The second option, the Festival Tourism course, lets travelers enjoy both the 2026 Gochang Hajon Clam Festival and the green barley festival in a single day. This route pairs seasonal food celebrations with springtime flower viewing, and each booking receives a special gift of Gochang clams (1 kg per person).
The package is priced at ₩109,000 per person (about $81.75 USD) and includes round-trip train fare, connecting vehicle transfers, and experience fees. Depending on the chosen itinerary, additional perks such as two meals may be provided.
Acting CEO Lee Woo-hyun of Korail Tourism Development said, \"We designed this trip to combine rail travel with marine tourism so visitors can easily enjoy the region’s beautiful nature and seasonal festivals. We’ll continue to roll out themed products that support both rail travel and local tourism.\"
