Blooming for nine days: a 5.45 km (3.39 mi) rose tunnel along Jungnangcheon
What’s on: a walking event, live performances, exhibitions and hands-on activities

Seoul’s Jungnang District announced on May 14 that the 18th Jungnang Seoul Rose Festival will take place along Jungnangcheon from May 15 through May 23.

The festival’s centerpiece is a 5.45 km (3.39 mi) rose tunnel and a dazzling display of 232 varieties totaling about 320,000 rose bushes — a signature floral celebration in Seoul. Events will be held around Jungnang Rose Park (Mukdonggyo–Gyeomjaegyo) and along the Jungnangcheon.

Festivities begin with a Rose Week opening ceremony on May 15, followed by the three-day “Grand Rose Festival” at Junghwa Sports Park through May 17. Expect a lively mix of performances, exhibitions and interactive workshops.

The festival closes on May 23 with the “Jungnang Artist Festival” at Myeonmok Sports Park, showcasing local artists and community creativity.

On opening day, May 15, the “18th Jungnang Seoul Rose Festival Jungnang Resident Walking Race” will also take place. The event is hosted by the Jungnang District Sports Council, co-organized by the Jungnang District Sports Council, the Jungnang District Parish Council, the Jungnang Saam Association and the Seventh District of the Seoul Catholic Church, and sponsored by Woori Bank.

Participants should gather at the Rose Festival main stage at Junghwa Sports Park by 11 a.m. From the air arch, walkers will head to the turnaround gate at Jungnang Rose Park and return to the main stage, completing a 3 km (1.86 mi) round-trip course. The walk takes about an hour.

Registration was handled online in advance for the first 1,000 registrants; there will be no on-site registration. On the day, attendees can enjoy celebratory performances and a prize drawing, and finishers will receive a commemorative gift.

A Jungnang District official said, “We organized the Jungnang Resident Walking Race so residents could join the festival opening. We hope families, friends and neighbors will stroll the rose-lined Jungnangcheon and soak up the spirit of spring.”
