[Herald Economy reporter Ham Young-hoon] Seom Air — launched this year to strengthen ties with island communities and boost tourism as South Korea hosts the World Islands Expo — celebrated its inaugural Gimpo–Sacheon flight at Sacheon Airport on the 30th, marking the start of regular service on the route.

The carrier will operate four round trips daily between Gimpo and Sacheon, creating a practical air link between the Seoul metropolitan area and South Gyeongsang Province.

Flights from Gimpo to Sacheon are scheduled for 7:20 AM, 10:50 AM, 2:20 PM and 5:50 PM, with returns from Sacheon to Gimpo at 9:05 AM, 12:30 PM, 4:05 PM and 7:35 PM. The timetable is designed for convenient same‑day business travel and leisure trips during prime hours, and officials expect it to stimulate both regional business and tourism demand.

Lee Hwan‑ju, director of Sacheon Airport, welcomed the launch, saying, “Seom Air’s debut is more than the opening of a new route — it’s a meaningful commitment to connect people, places and communities. I’m confident it will breathe new life into residents’ daily routines, the local economy and tourism.”

Park Wan‑soo, governor of South Gyeongsang Province, congratulated the venture: “Sacheon Airport is the only airport that provides access to South Gyeongsang and the southern coast. We expect Seom Air’s launch to support the aerospace industry and the development of western South Gyeongsang. Like the word ‘sum,’ which implies bringing things together, I hope Seom Air and the province grow hand in hand.”

Seom Air CEO Choi Yong‑deok emphasized the airline’s local role: “Sacheon is at the heart of South Korea’s aerospace sector. By running four daily flights, Seom Air aims to become essential, everyday air infrastructure for residents of Sacheon, Jinju and the broader Gyeongnam region.”

He added, “This isn’t just a new route — it’s the start of a closer connection between the Seoul metro area and western South Gyeongsang and a turning point that can expand Sacheon’s reach globally. It will cut the need for Sacheon residents to travel to Seoul the night before international flights and make visits easier for overseas MRO operators and aviation buyers. I hope it becomes the beginning of easier travel for citizens and broader opportunities for businesses.” Sacheon, located in the heart of the southern coast, is viewed as well positioned to improve island connectivity through an air‑ship model.

Meanwhile, Seom Air is developing trunk routes to address domestic air-traffic issues that have affected movement between Incheon Airport and regional airports.
